Pictures Talking

Here’s something new! Sprung from a creative afternoon on the sofa with Angela Chick, and a donation of paints from a much-missed Grandpa, I made these.

That last one there is my favourite, and I’d like to do this on a large scale. All the above were made using wall-paint as the speech bubble – to help get that stark edge, which I want more practice at. The orange text is with watercolour and the thinest brush ever. Slight issue with magazine paper going wrinkly with the paint, may try ironing the paper after painting. Now need to collect more B&W images of people at parties, having a nice time.

Advice to Myself

Scan 2 advice

1. Do it now

2. Ask yourself – What do I aspire to be?

3. Ask yourself – What do I want to create?

2. Don’t Self Sabotage (something I’m quite good at) it’s what stops you from being the person you want to be (making the things that you want to make) Comes from being scared – “What do I gain from this?” and self sabotage usually leads to short term gain

3. Don’t waste time on guilt. Get on with it and resolve to do better.

A few good little things (big things!) I’ve already picked up from reading a great book called ‘The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It for Life’ by  Twyla Tharp

Improv Everywhere: trouserless subway ride!

Incredible! ‘Improv Everywhere‘ held it’s ninth ‘no pants subway ride’ in New York this week.

Here’s the video of the 2009 No pants subway ride:

Mono printing

I have been working pretty hard on my ‘Text Project’ and needed some escape from that. I’ve chosen it to be mundane and repetitive, and I love that, but sometimes I do need to release some more creativity within some other format. And yesterday, this came through mono printing. I used my little roller, and a piece of acetate to ink up, it’s so easy and mess-free. I used some sequins too, and got involved with drawing a lot of small squares, again – very repetitive, I can’t get away from it! The little pictures are not hanging on a washing-line type of structure in my studio – I have always wanted a studio with things hanging from washing lines, and now I have it. I’m so lucky.
